New Hollywood Studios Fastpass Tier Changes

With the release of Galaxy’s Edge looming, and the Tower of Terror and Rockin’ Roller Coaster pushing 2 hours. Disney has made some changes to the Hollywood Studio’s Tier list.

As of August 29, Rockin’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror will be joining Toy Story Mania, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Slinky Dog Dash in Tier 1. This leaves Tier 2 with a bunch of shows, and 1 simulator ride.

The Galaxy’s Edge Attractions will not be fast pass eligible.

This is going to make it much tougher to get the most out of your day at Hollywood Studios, but certainly not impossible.

Been there, done that.

If you’re a local or frequent visitor, this can actually be a good thing. At least, sort of.

Since the Tier 1 list will be full of attractions and guests will be limited to 1 – there’s going to be a lot more openings. Day of especially. EPCOT has a similar setup, and it is often easy to score same day Frozen, Test Track, and Soarin’ passes.

If you’re okay with going to ride one ride, pick one, fast pass it, ride it, and begin looking for new passes at a different park.

You can’t make plans in advance at more than one park, but usually you can find something, especially if you’re flexible.

Hollywood Studios all day

Staying at Hollywood Studios all day is going to be a different challenge.

My advice is to book the Tier 1 Ride of your Choosing – I would still recommend Slinky Dog, for as early as possible.

Book a show (like the little Mermaid) for the time slot immediately following that. Scan into the little mermaid, and then find a different show for as soon as possible and book that.

This could let you complete 3 fast passes in under an hour.

After that, start looking for the other Tier 1 Rides you’re missing out on and repeat. Remember to be flexible.

We recommend weighting the rides in the following order

Slinky Dog Dash
Tower of Terror
Rockin’ Roller Coaster
Toy Story Mania
Alien Swirling Saucers

We’ll see how this new tier list works out and let you know. If you’re staying on property during Galaxies Edge release, there are several “Extra Magic Hours” each day at Hollywood studios. This might be a great time to ride Tower of Terror or something before you head to a different park for the day.
